Finance ministry official killed in Delhi BMW crash, family questions delay in hospital transfer

New Delhi, Sep 15: Navjot Singh (52), Deputy Secretary in the Finance Ministry’s Department of Economic Affairs, died on Sunday after a speeding BMW car rammed his motorcycle on Ring Road near Delhi Cantt metro station. His wife, Sandeep Kaur, suffered serious injuries and remains hospitalized.

Their son Navnoor Singh has alleged that his father’s life might have been saved had he been taken to a nearby hospital instead of a facility nearly 19 km away in GTB Nagar, raising concerns over a crucial delay in treatment.

“Time is critical. Maybe he would have survived if taken to a nearby hospital,” Navnoor told NDTV, adding that the decision to shift his parents so far “didn’t make sense.”

Police said the BMW was driven by Gagandeep, with her husband Parikshit as a passenger. Both, involved in a horse leather goods business, allegedly took the couple to a private hospital owned by someone known to them.

Navnoor claimed hospital staff initially refused to reveal the woman’s identity and later discovered her name in a medico-legal certificate.

An FIR has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 238A (destruction of evidence), 281 (rash driving), 125B (acts endangering life), and 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).

Police have seized the BMW and the motorcycle as investigations continue.
