Tragic fire claims lives of three siblings in Murshidabad

Kolkata, Sep 14: In a heartbreaking incident early Sunday morning, three young siblings, aged between seven and nine years, lost their lives in a house fire in Bhagwangola, Murshidabad district, West Bengal.

The victims included twin boys Sahil Sheikh and Adil Sheikh, both aged nine, and their infant sister Sajida Khatun, just six months old. They were asleep in their family home when the fire broke out.

The house belonged to Shayan Sheikh, who was away at the time of the incident. His wife, Sarjeena Bibi, was inside the home with the children. Sarjeena was awakened by screams and discovered the house engulfed in thick smoke. Unable to locate her children in the chaos, she managed to escape the burning building but was unable to return inside.

The fire quickly consumed the house, leading to the tragic death of the three children, who were later found badly burned by the fire department. They were rushed to Nashipur primary health centre, where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.

Initial investigations point to a short circuit as the likely cause of the fire. The blaze also spread to the neighboring homes of Shayan Sheikh’s brothers, Swapan and Nayan, destroying their houses completely.

Local authorities, including MLA Reyat Hossain Sarkar, visited the scene to offer support to the grieving family. Sarkar described the incident as deeply tragic and assured that the police would thoroughly investigate the fire’s cause and extend all possible help to the victims’ family.

“The fire broke out around 1 a.m. and destroyed three houses. Our thoughts are with the bereaved family during this difficult time,” Sarkar said.
