Udupi, Sep 13: "Renowned Alare Govinda team of Mumbai will be performing Dahi Handi during the Udupi Sri Krishna Janmashtami – Vitlapindi celebrations on September 15 in the city," said Santhosh D Suvarna, coordinator of Sri Sailakshmi troupe.

Speaking at the press conference in Udupi press club, Santhosh Suvarna said, “Sri Sailakshmi team has been organizing Dahi Handi performances by the Mumbai based renowned troupe Balamitra vyam shala, Mumbai for the past several years. In 2012 for the first time the Alare Govinda troupe was introduced to Udupi by our coordinator Madhusudhan Poojary Kemmannu. He is the person behind these efforts in organizing this event very successfully over the years. He also founded Suryodaya Kreeda mandal in Mumbai which is also very famous for Dahi Handi performances. A 200-member team will be coming from Mumbai to perform. They will be performing at 10 locations in Udupi city on September 15. The inauguration will be held in Udupi Sri Krishna Math at 9:30 am and Paryaya Puttige seer Sri Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji will inaugurate and convey his blessings.

Madhusudhan Poojary Kemmannu, coordinator addressing the press conference said, “A 200-member team will be arriving on Sunday September 14 to Udupi city. They will be performing in 10 locations of Udupi city. We have taken all the necessary permissions and safety measures are also ensured. Cranes will be used for placing the Dahi Handis. The team is well experienced and have performed with 9 levels of pyramid in Mumbai. Here they will be creating 7-layer pyramids. We are also planning to have a performance in an open ground in upcoming years with a much larger gathering at night time."

The troupe will be performing in 10 locations of Udupi city starting from Sri Krishna Math opposite to Kanaka gopura at 9.30 am, Ather Showroom Kunjibettu at 10.30 am, opposite to Nanda Gold at 11 am, near VK Paradise near Sanskrit College at 11.30 am, opposite Denta Care at 12 pm, opposite Girija Surgicals at 12.30 pm, Shyamili Hall at 2 pm in the morning session. In the afternoon session the troupe will perform in Adi Udupi junction at 3 pm, near Mission compound at 4 pm and the last performance of the day at Adarsh bakery Ambagilu at 5 pm.
