Panaji, Sep 13: Goa police have arrested 28-year-old Dr Vrushab Doshi for allegedly raping a 24-year-old Moroccan national inside the ICU of a private hospital in Old Goa where she was receiving treatment. Doshi, a native of Solapur, was tracked down and arrested on Thursday in Solapur while trying to evade capture and has been remanded to one-day police custody.
North Goa SP Rahul Gupta said an FIR has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including rape. According to police, the survivor stated that the accused visited her ICU room along with a nurse, but sent the nurse out before examining her.
The Moroccan woman, in Goa on a business visa, had come with a group to attend a training programme on Divar island organised by an NGO working to reduce poverty. She was staying at a resort on the island when she developed health issues and was admitted to Healthway Hospitals on August 29.
Her sister, a Spanish national, lodged a complaint alleging that on August 31 around 10 pm, Dr Doshi sexually assaulted the patient while conducting a neurological sensitivity examination. The doctor allegedly lifted her gown and touched her private area while she was immobile and vulnerable.
Healthway Hospitals confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that the doctor has been suspended from active duty pending investigation and that the hospital is providing full moral and logistical support to the survivor, who continues treatment at their Old Goa facility.
