Oldbury, Sep 13: In a shocking hate crime, a Sikh woman in her twenties was raped and subjected to racist abuse by two men near Tame Road in Oldbury around 8:30 am last Tuesday. The attackers hurled slurs, telling her to “go back to your own country,” in an assault that mirrors other recent attacks on Indian-origin expatriates.
West Midlands Police confirmed they are treating the case as a racially aggravated attack and have appealed for public help to trace the suspects. CCTV footage and forensic examinations are underway. According to BirminghamLive, the suspects are described as white men—one with a shaven head wearing a dark sweatshirt, and the other dressed in a grey top.

The brutal assault has left the local Sikh community outraged. A senior police official acknowledged the community’s anger as “fully understandable” and assured increased patrols in the area.
British MP Preet Kaur Gill condemned the crime, calling the rise in overt racism “deeply concerning.” She stressed, “This was an act of extreme violence and racially aggravated, with the perpetrators reportedly saying she ‘does not belong here.’ She does belong here. Our Sikh community and every community have the right to feel safe, respected and valued. Racism and misogyny have no place in Oldbury or anywhere in Britain.”
Ilford South MP Jas Athwal called it a “vile, racist, misogynist attack” and urged authorities to treat it with utmost seriousness. “This attack reflects the rising racial tensions in our country, leaving a young woman traumatised for life,” he said.
The incident follows another hate crime less than a month ago, when three teenagers assaulted two elderly Sikh men outside a Wolverhampton railway station, kicking them repeatedly before one attacker was restrained.
