Mangaluru, Sep 12: Police have arrested a woman from Ullal named Minnath in connection with gold chain thefts reported at a cloth store and a marriage hall. A total of 18 grams of gold chains worth Rs 1.80 lac have been recovered.
According to police sources, on June 2, Rahmath from Belma village in Ullal taluk had gone with her children to Sagar Collection, a garment store in Tokkottu. Due to rain, they stopped near Street Palace Bakery. At that moment, a burqa-clad woman snatched a 10-gram gold chain from her daughter’s neck and fled. A case was registered at Ullal police station.

Based on information, police arrested Minnath on September 12 and recovered the stolen chain. During interrogation, the accused admitted to another theft on July 9 at a wedding function in KMS Convention Hall, where she had stolen an 8-gram gold chain from a bag. A case related to this incident had been registered at Konaje police station. Police also recovered this stolen chain.
Minnath was produced before the court, which remanded her to 14 days of judicial custody.
Police commissioner confirmed that 18 grams of gold chains in total have been recovered from the accused, and further investigation is underway.
