Margao, Sep 12: The state government has chalked out a comprehensive water supply enhancement plan for several villages in Quepem constituency, long left outside the coverage of the existing Selaulim water supply project.

The development blueprint spans five key areas, with investments running into crores, and is aimed at tackling persistent shortages in remote settlements.

The most prominent project is planned for Morpirla, where a 100-cum ground-level reservoir will be constructed near Shiramoddi temple road at Zamlimoddi. At a cost of Rs 32 lakh, the facility will benefit households in Zamlimoddi, Kanibag, Ghadiwada and Galli. The proposal is currently awaiting expenditure sanction.

In Barcem-Quedem village panchayat, two projects have been lined up—extension of a 100mm DI pipeline at Bormolem (Rs 15 lakh), and a 90mm distribution pipeline at Subdolem (Rs 37 lakh).
The Naqueri-Betul belt will see improved connectivity with a 110mm pipeline to serve Bondai and Dessaiwada, benefiting Tembiwada, Dessaiwada and Bondai. The Rs 50 lakh project has reached the estimate submission stage.

Pipeline upgrades have also been drawn up for Basrai in Balli-Adnem panchayat, while perhaps the most extensive coverage is reserved for Khola region. Here, several settlements—including Nuvem, Kudai, Cabo de Rama, Saleri, Parekhata, Vagon, Kajumoll and Pareymoll—will be linked to the Mokhard water network of Canacona.

PWD sources said project estimates are at different stages of administrative approval, with some already cleared and others awaiting sanction. Officials noted that once completed, the works will bring most of Quepem constituency under the Selaulim water supply network, ending years of hardship for locals.
