Bengaluru, Sep 8: Former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, serving a life sentence in Parappana Agrahara Jail for raping a domestic worker, has been assigned work as a clerk in the prison library.

According to prison officials, Prajwal has been tasked with distributing books to undertrials and convicts, maintaining records of which inmate has borrowed which book.

“If he completes his assigned duties, he will be paid Rs 522 per day. As per jail rules, life convicts are assigned work based on their skills and interest,” a senior prison officer told PTI on Sunday.

Prajwal, an engineering graduate, had expressed interest in administrative work. However, the jail administration decided to post him in the library, sources said. He has already completed a day’s duty.

Prisoners are required to work at least 12 days a month, typically three days a week. Wages are given only for the days worked, and no payment is made on days when inmates have to attend court hearings or meet lawyers.

Prajwal, son of Holenarasipur MLA H D Revanna, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the special court for people’s representatives on August 2.
