Washington, Sep 8: US President Donald Trump on Sunday issued what he described as a “last warning” to Hamas, urging the militant group to accept a ceasefire deal in Gaza. Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed, “The Israelis have accepted my Terms. It is time for Hamas to accept as well.”
While the Israeli government has not formally confirmed Trump’s statement, a senior Israeli official reportedly said the proposal is being “seriously considered.”
According to reports, the deal envisions the release of all remaining hostages on the first day of the truce, followed by negotiations on ending the war. In exchange, Israel would halt its military operations and release Palestinian prisoners.
Speaking after his return to Washington, Trump told reporters, “We’re going to have a Gaza deal soon.” He had earlier suggested that a ceasefire could be reached within a week, citing his discussions with unnamed stakeholders.
At the end of June, Trump had expressed optimism, stating that a ceasefire was “close” while highlighting US humanitarian assistance. “We’re involved because people are dying,” he said, without elaborating on the specifics of the negotiations.
The situation remains fluid, with both Hamas and Israeli officials yet to make public commitments to the reported terms.
