SCR introduces biometric sign-on for TTEs to boost transparency

Hyderabad, Sep 8: In a step towards digitalisation and transparency, the South Central Railway (SCR) has rolled out Aadhaar-based biometric sign-on and sign-off for ticket checking staff. The system has been introduced at six Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) lobbies, including Nanded, and will gradually be extended to all 73 lobbies across the zone.

“Earlier, the sign-on/sign-off activity of ticket checking staff was done using a username and password. Now, Aadhaar-based biometric login has been introduced to streamline the process,” said A Sridhar, chief public relations officer of SCR. Fingerprint devices have been integrated into the TTE lobby application, ensuring real-time recording of login and logout timings.

The move ensures the physical presence of ticket checking staff at both their source and destination stations, preventing discrepancies in duty reporting.

SCR general manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava said the initiative reinforces the zone’s commitment to adopting digital solutions. “The biometric sign-on and sign-off system is one more such digital initiative and will ensure transparency in the system,” he said.

SCR operates across Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Guntakal, and Nanded divisions, running at least 347 mail and express trains and 175 passenger trains daily, according to official data.
