Mangaluru: Minor caught riding scooter in Bajpe, court imposes Rs 27,500 fine on owner

Mangaluru, Sep 7:
Police at Bajpe station booked a case against a scooter owner after a minor was found riding the vehicle with two pillion riders during a vehicle inspection at Bajpe Pete on August 25 evening.

Around 6.35 pm, a PSI along with staff stopped the scooter during routine checks and found that the rider was an underage boy. Two others were travelling with him on the pillion seat. Investigation confirmed that the minor had been given the scooter by his parents.

Bajpe police registered a case under sections 199A, 194C, 194D, 130 read with 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act and submitted a chargesheet to the jurisdictional court.

On September 3, the court imposed a fine of Rs 27,500 on the scooter owner.

    Heavier fines should be imposed and more intensive checks carried out, to weed out this menace.

    Excessive fine. Earlier before 2010 it was common and we learnt driving at very young age. 27000 is too high fine when in night one in 5 vehicles do drink and drive in this country.
