Mangaluru, Sept 5: In a dramatic airport arrest, a 26-year-old man wanted in a 2016 attempted robbery case was apprehended at Mangaluru International Airport after evading Indian authorities for nearly three years while allegedly living in Dubai.
The accused, Vishal Kumar, son of Jagadeesh Suvarna, and a resident of Latha Nilaya, Devi Nagar, KHB Colony, Kavoor, had been absconding since 2022, failing to appear before court in connection with Crime No. 178/2016 under Sections 399 and 402 of the IPC, registered at Kavoor police station.

The case is being tried in the 3rd Additional District and Sessions Court under Sessions Case No. 14/2024.
As the accused repeatedly failed to attend court proceedings, the court issued a non-bailable warrant for his arrest. Upon receiving credible intelligence that he had travelled abroad, police secured a Lookout Circular (LOC), confirming that the fugitive had fled to Dubai.
On September 4, Vishal Kumar returned to India through Mangaluru International Airport, where officials from the Bureau of Immigration intercepted and detained him on arrival. He was immediately handed over to Kavoor police for further legal action.
He was produced before the 3rd Additional District and Sessions Court, which remanded him to judicial custody till September 18.
A senior police official involved in the operation said, “Despite being on the run for over three years, we maintained active surveillance and ensured that the LOC was enforced swiftly once the accused re-entered Indian jurisdiction.”
Adding to his legal troubles, police have registered a fresh FIR (Crime No. 133/2025) under Section 269 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for wilfully evading judicial proceedings.
Authorities have also confirmed that Vishal Kumar is named in another criminal case registered at Barke Police Station, further compounding his legal situation.
“The arrest sends a strong message—absconding from justice will not shield offenders, even across borders,” the official added.
