Bantwal, Sep 4: The long-neglected and dilapidated B C Road Kaikunje railway station here has been reconstructed with a new design at a cost of Rs 28.49 crore under the Amrit Bharat scheme.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had virtually laid the foundation stone for the project in February 2024. On that occasion, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and MLA Rajesh Naik Ulepady had attended a brief programme at the station.

The first phase of the work is nearing completion and the project is expected to be fully ready within the next three to four months.
The renovated station will feature facilities such as advance ticket reservation, separate waiting rooms and toilets for men and women, a cafeteria, and four catering stalls. Granite flooring has been laid in some parts, while concrete and tiles have been used in others. The station has also been equipped with CCTV cameras, Wi-Fi, and LED display screens providing train movement and schedule updates. The main entrance has been designed in a circular style, drawing attention.
Electrification of the station and construction of a foot overbridge have already been completed. Police personnel have been deployed for security, which has helped curb anti-social activities such as drug peddling. Locals have expressed satisfaction that women and children can now travel more safely.
The B C Road Kaikunje railway station in Bantwal taluk now stands refurbished and gleaming with its new look.
