Moodbidri, Sep 2: A police staff member attached to Moodbidri police station has been suspended for allegedly harassing a woman complainant with obscene calls and messages.

According to sources, a married woman from Thodaru near Moodbidri had visited the station on August 23 to lodge a complaint regarding a family dispute. Inspector Sandesh had then called both husband and wife, mediated between them, and closed the case.

However, police staffer Shanthappa allegedly took the woman’s mobile number from her complaint copy and began contacting her from August 25 to September 1. The woman alleged that he repeatedly called and sent messages, spoke obscenely, and even asked her to meet him.

On September 1, the woman returned to Moodbidri police station and lodged a complaint against Shanthappa, submitting call records as evidence.

A case has been registered against him at Moodbidri police station, and he has since been suspended from service.
