Media Release

Mangaluru, Sep 1: St Agnes School CBSE, Mangaluru, celebrated National Sports Day on September 1 with grandeur and enthusiasm to honour the birth anniversary of hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand. The day brought alive the values of fitness, teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship.

The celebration began on a spiritual note with a prayer service, seeking God’s blessings for health and harmony. This was followed by a vibrant welcome dance by the students of Grade 7, whose graceful and energetic performance set the perfect tone for the event.

Janice Rachel Mascarenhas of Grade 5D then extended a warm welcome address, greeting the gathering and giving a special mention to the chief guest, Devika, physical director of St Agnes School CBSE, who was ceremoniously welcomed with a potted plant by Tr Shalet Maben. Known for her calm yet meticulous approach, Devika has been an inspiring mentor, guiding students with patience, dedication, and a spirit of sportsmanship.

The significance of the day was highlighted by Stuthi P Kamath of grade 7C, who reminded everyone that National Sports Day not only honours Major Dhyan Chand’s legacy but also inspires every individual to pursue fitness and discipline as a way of life.

A thought-provoking skit titled “Sports: The Game of Life” was then presented by the students. Introduced with the powerful line, “Sports is not just about winning medals, it is about shaping character, nurturing resilience, and building the courage to rise each time we fall,” the skit beautifully showcased the stepping stones to success—ambition, dedication, hard work, good habits, sacrifice, and the courage to overcome failure. It left the audience inspired with the message that success is a journey built on perseverance and passion.

Adding rhythm and vibrance, the students of Grade 5 presented a lively sports-themed dance, which celebrated the joy, energy, and discipline of sports through graceful movements and powerful expressions.

The chief guest, Devika, in her motivating speech, urged the students to value sports as more than just physical activity but as a way of building character, teamwork, and determination. Her words resonated deeply with the young students, encouraging them to embrace sports as a way of life, reminding them that every game teaches humility in victory and courage in defeat. She also urged students to stay active and consistent in their practice, as physical fitness contributes greatly to mental well-being and academic excellence.

The compares, Haleema Shazmina of grade 5D and Asra Lohani of grade 7C, carried the programme gracefully and anchored the event with confidence and charm.

The celebration concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Alisha Siyona Menezes of Grade 7C, who expressed gratitude to the chief guest, principal, teachers, and students for making the day memorable.

The event truly embodied this year’s theme, “Sports as an enabler for an inclusive and fit society,” leaving behind a message of perseverance, unity, and the joy of healthy living.
