Sanguem / Margao, Aug 31: South Goa collector Egna Cleetus (IAS) on Wednesday visited the grieving family of Rajendra Kashinath Gaonkar and Mohandas Kashinath Gaonkar, the two brothers who tragically died by electrocution in Quepem on August 27.

Accompanied by the South Goa Disaster Management team, the collector met with the victims’ ailing mother and other family members, conveying heartfelt condolences on behalf of chief minister Pramod Sawant. She assured the family of full support from the state government and promised a thorough investigation into the incident.

Also present during the visit were Zilla Panchayat Member Suresh Kepekar, SDPO Quepem Ashish Shirodkar, PI Quepem Arjun Sangodkar, Mamlatdar Nathan Afonso, and Dr. Bale.

According to the police, the brothers lost their lives after accidentally coming into contact with live electric wires that had been illegally laid in a plantation to ward off wild animals. The plantation's landlady, Jaya Gaonkar, has been arrested and charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. She has been remanded to 13 days of judicial custody by a Judicial Magistrate in Quepem.
