Mumbai, Aug 31: Popular television actress Priya Marathe, best known for her role as Varsha in the hit series Pavitra Rishta, passed away on Sunday at the age of 38. According to reports, the actress died at her Mira Road residence in Mumbai after a prolonged battle with cancer.

Born on April 23, 1987, in Mumbai, Priya began her artistic journey in comedy before transitioning to television. She made her debut in the Marathi serial Ya Sukhanoya and gained further recognition in Char Divas Sasuche. Her role as Varsha, the sister of the lead character in Pavitra Rishta, became one of her most loved performances, sharing screen space with the late Sushant Singh Rajput.

Over the years, she continued to make her mark in both Marathi and Hindi television, appearing in shows like Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, where she played Jyoti Malhotra, and Tu Tithe Me, where her portrayal of the antagonist Priya Mohite stood out. In 2017, she joined Saath Nibhaana Saathiya as Bhavani Rathod, a cold-blooded character who murdered her husband — a stark contrast to her otherwise affable screen presence.

Priya married fellow actor Shantanu Moghe in April 2012. He is known for his role in Swarajya Rakshak Sambhaji. The couple, admired for their grounded nature, shared a deep connection to their roots and spirituality.

Her passing has deeply affected the entertainment industry. Friends, co-stars, and fans have taken to social media to mourn her loss and celebrate her warmth, humility, and immense talent. Tributes have poured in from across the television and Marathi film world, remembering her as not just a gifted actress, but a genuinely kind human being.

Though gone too soon, Priya Marathe’s contribution to Indian television — particularly her roles that resonated with countless viewers — will be cherished for years to come.
