Mangaluru, Aug 31: Acting on credible information from the assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Mangaluru north sub-division, Kavoor police conducted a late-night raid on August 30 and arrested 17 persons involved in illegal gambling.
Around 11:30 pm, Kavoor police sub-inspector Mallikarjun Biradar, along with his staff, raided a house bearing No. 5-120/5(8) at Bolpugudde village in Mangaluru taluk, where cash was being staked in the gambling game 'Andar Bahar (Ulai Pidai)'.

The arrested are identified as Dikshit (31), Raghavendra (41), Umesh (41) and Gautham (32) from Derebail Konchady, Dayananda (40), Konchady, Vaishakh Shetty (25), from Yeyyadi, Praveen Kumar (40) from Farangipete, Shahul Hameed (50) from Kaup, Tilak Raj (31) from Bajpe, Jayanand S (44) from Vamanjoor, Lawrence Raja D’Souza (48) from Kulur, Inas D’Souza and Mustafa (61) from Ullal, Mohammed Ashraf from Ullalbail, Mohammed Fayaz (42) from Permannur, Sunil D’Souza (41) from Adam Kudru, Padapu, and Kannan (42) and Ramanadu district, Tamil Nadu.
During the raid, police seized cash amounting to Rs 1,92,000 and 18 mobile phones, with the total value of the seized property estimated at around Rs 4,00,000. Cases have been registered against the accused, the house owner, and the tenant at Kavoor police station under Crime No. 129/2025, Section 78 of the Karnataka Police Act, and Section 112 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
The operation was carried out under the directions of ACP Srikanth K, and led by PSI Mallikarjun Biradar with the support of ACP’s office staff Chandru, Reji, Damodar, Halesh, and police station staff ASI Jayaram, Manjunath, Nagaraj, along with others.
Police clarified that while gambling cases are usually booked under the Karnataka Police Act, since two of the accused already have multiple cases pending against them, the present case was also registered under provisions of organized crime in the BNS. All pending cases have been charge-sheeted, and wherever repeat violations are found with two or more cases against an accused, cases will be booked under organized crime provisions, police informed.
