Five arrested for rs 70,000 theft from Chapora store room

Chapora, Aug 31: Anjuna police have arrested five persons in connection with the theft of batteries and other items worth about Rs 70,000 from the store room of Babaji Dabholkar in Chapora.

The theft reportedly took place between 5 pm on August 26 and 10 am on August 29, when the suspects broke into the store room near Chapora jetty and stole a used battery, five nuts and bolts, eight shackles, one wing leg, three wheel stands, six boards, and some cable wires.

The arrested accused have been identified as Irfan Ahmed (20) and Tafeem Bakridi (20), both residents of Harmal and originally from Uttar Pradesh; and Savita Sunil Lamani (30), Geeta Ramesh Nayak (35) and Shruti Ravi Karbhari (25), all residents of Harmal and originally from Gadag, Karnataka.

Following a complaint lodged by Dabholkar, police examined CCTV footage from the shop and tracked down the suspects. They were arrested on the evening of August 29.

Further investigation is in progress, police said.
