Andhra Pradesh, Aug 30: Mutyalaraju Revu, a farmer’s son from Chinagollapalem village in West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, overcame hardships to secure All India Rank 1 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination of 2006. Born in 1980, his childhood was marked by struggle, including the tragic loss of his sister due to lack of medical facilities in their remote village—a moment that ignited his resolve to work for rural development.

A bright student throughout, Revu pursued BTech in Electrical Engineering from Kakatiya University, Hyderabad, and later completed his post-graduation in engineering from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru. His academic excellence was proven early, with top ranks in ECET 1998, IES 2003, and GATE 2002 before entering the civil services.

After briefly serving as a railway engineer and later being selected for the IPS, Revu persevered and achieved his dream of becoming an IAS officer on his third attempt, at the age of 27.

Since then, he has held several significant roles, including collector of Nellore and West Godavari, and secretary to the chief minister. Today, he serves as the principal secretary (Home) to the government of Andhra Pradesh, continuing his mission of strengthening governance and improving rural infrastructure.

His journey from a small village to the top of India’s toughest exam stands as a powerful example of determination and service.
