War 2 struggles at box office, falls short of Rs 250 cr mark

Mumbai, Aug 26: Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s much-hyped action thriller War 2 is facing a tough run at the domestic box office. Despite strong star power, the film has managed to collect only Rs 224.25 cr in 12 days, still short of the Rs 250 cr milestone.

On its second Monday (Aug 25), the film’s earnings dipped sharply to Rs 2.25 cr. Earlier, it had recorded Rs 6.25 cr on Saturday and Rs 6.50 cr on Sunday. Week one collections stood at Rs 150.4 cr in Hindi and Rs 52.2 cr in Telugu. While Jr NTR’s Hindi debut initially drew a robust response from Telugu audiences, the numbers slowed down as days passed.

War 2 registered the second-highest opening in Hindi films this year, next only to Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava. However, trade experts feel it has failed to live up to expectations. “The film is very weak. And content is the king. So the film couldn’t make a mark despite having strong star power,” trade analyst Taran Adarsh told NDTV, declaring it the first flop in YRF’s spy universe.

Mounted on a massive Rs 400 cr budget, War 2 marks the first collaboration between Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, with Kiara Advani playing a key role. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the film is a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster War and forms part of Yash Raj Films’ spy thriller universe.
