Mumbai, Aug 25: Playback singer Sunidhi Chauhan, who has ruled Bollywood music for over two decades, had a tumultuous start in her personal life with her first marriage to choreographer Bobby Khan. At just 18, she went against her parents’ wishes to marry him, only to part ways within a year.

Sunidhi and Bobby reportedly grew close while working on the song Pehla Nasha. Despite opposition from both families, the two tied the knot in 2002. However, their marriage soon fell apart due to religious differences. Following the separation in 2003, Sunidhi reconciled with her parents, who had initially disowned her after the marriage.

Struggling financially and emotionally at that time, Sunidhi found support in music director Anu Malik, who helped her regain her ground.

In 2012, Sunidhi gave love another chance and married composer Hitesh Sonik after dating him for over two years. The couple is now parents to a son, Tej.

Recently, on a podcast with Raj Shamani, Sunidhi revealed that she had not been paid for several of her songs in the past. “It is a choice that you make. Sometimes I choose not to take money for a song. It doesn’t mean makers don’t pay, but I decide based on my feelings for the project,” she said.

Sunidhi, known for chartbusters like Sheila Ki Jawani, Kamli, Desi Girl, The Disco Song and Daawat-e-Ishq, continues to be one of Bollywood’s most versatile and celebrated voices.
