Mangaluru, Aug 22: The vibrant and meaningful Konkani Manyata Divas was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Lourdes Central School, Bejai on August 19. The occasion was graced by deacon Royden Misquith, in the presence of vice principal Anitha Thomas, along with the staff and the students.
The programme began with a prayer song sung by the students learning Konkani. Juan Furtado and Jeanne Frank of grade VI presented the thought for the day. Tania Pinto and Princia Delina Pinto of grade VI highlighted the importance of Konkani Manyata Divas. The students sang a melodious Konkani song 'Mhaji bhas Konkani, Mhaji bhas Konkani' under the guidance of Roshan Cordeiro and Angelina Moras, which brought liveliness to the celebration. The students enacted a skit carrying a powerful moral message on the importance of Konkani Language, emphasizing that it is not just a means of communication but our culture, pride and identity. Students of grade VIII performed the traditional Ghumat song under the guidance of Linette Pinto, showcasing their enthusiasm in preserving the Konkani culture.








Deacon Royden Misquith, in his message, said, “Language is a precious treasure gifted to us. The stories, fables, sayings, and proverbs are priceless legacies that must be preserved and passed on to others. The Konkani language, in particular, is vital in sustaining and safeguarding our identity.” He congratulated all the students learning Konkani as a third language. He also encouraged them to enrich the Konkani language.
The programme was organized by the Konkani learning students of grade VI, VII and VIII under the guidance of Konkani Teacher Wilma Fernandes. Vice principal Anitha Thomas, Wilma Fernandes, Roshan Cordeiro, Angelina Moras, Linette Pinto, Henry Mascarenhas were present for the programme. Tianna Pinto, Leanne Lobo of grade VI and Neil Rodrigues, Ethan Fernandes of grade VII compered the programme. It was a day of joy for all the Konkani learning students as they participated in the programme.
