Mumbai, Aug 18: In a heartwarming move toward inclusive entertainment, Netflix India organized a special pre-release screening of The Great Indian Kapil Show — Independence Day Special Episode — exclusively for visually impaired audiences. The event took place at Netflix’s Mumbai office, in partnership with the National Association for the Blind (NAB), Mumbai.

To ensure accessibility, the episode featured built-in audio descriptions, allowing attendees to fully experience the show’s humor, expressions, and visual nuances. The initiative underscores Netflix’s continued efforts to make content more inclusive for audiences with disabilities.

The screening was attended by key dignitaries including Tukaram Mundhe, IAS, secretary of the Divyang Kalyan Department, Government of Maharashtra, and Prakash Magdum, IIS, Managing Director of the National Film Development Corporation of India.

Adding a special touch to the event, the show’s beloved cast — Kapil Sharma, Sunil Grover, Kiku Sharda, and Archana Puran Singh — made an appearance, engaging with the audience and celebrating the power of accessible storytelling.

Speaking about the experience, Kapil Sharma shared,

“As performers, there’s nothing more rewarding than knowing your work can reach more hearts. Being part of this special screening, where every joke and every moment could be felt and experienced equally, was a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do.

Entertainment sabke liye hai — aur agar accessibility ke zariye sab humare show ka anubhav kar sakte hain, isse behtar kya ho sakta hai.”

Dr. Vimal Kumar Dengla, honorary secretary general of NAB, praised the initiative, noting,

“Audio description is more than a feature; it’s inclusion in action. When platforms like Netflix champion accessibility, they open up the world of entertainment for our community. We deeply value this collaboration and hope to see more such steps going forward.”

Netflix India’s Series Head Tanya Bami emphasized the broader impact of the initiative:

“This screening isn’t just about one episode—it’s about creating a space where every voice matters and every viewer feels acknowledged. It’s been a humbling experience that inspires us to do more, grow further, and learn every day.”

The event not only brought laughter and celebration but also marked a meaningful step toward mainstreaming inclusive entertainment, reaffirming that joy, humor, and connection should truly be for everyone.
