Mumbai, Aug 17: The Dahi Handi celebrations in Mumbai turned tragic on Saturday as two people lost their lives and at least 95 others were injured during the festivities, civic officials confirmed.
In the evening, 14-year-old Rohan Mohan Malvi of Gaondevi Govinda Pathak was declared dead on arrival at Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar. Malvi, who had recently recovered from jaundice, had not participated in the pyramid formation. He fell unconscious while sitting in a tempo in Andheri East’s Adarsh Nagar area, officials said.

Earlier in the afternoon, 32-year-old Jagmohan Shivkiran Chaudhari died after falling from the first-floor window of his house in Mankhurd’s Maharashtra Nagar while tying a dahi handi. He was rushed to Shatabdi Govandi Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
By 9 pm, the tally of injured participants stood at 95, with two in serious condition. “Of these, 76 were treated and discharged, while 19 remain admitted. The injuries include 30 cases from the island city, 31 from the eastern suburbs, and 34 from the western suburbs,” a civic official said.
