Udupi, Aug 15: The 79th Independence Day celebration was celebrated in St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady, Udupi on August 15 in the school premises.

The day’s events commenced with a warm welcome of esteemed chief guest, Subhas, an ex-serviceman of the Indian Air Force. The celebration began with the ceremonial hoisting of our sacred National Flag, followed by the National Anthem and Dhwaj Geet.

The chief guest was honoured with a guard of honour, after which the students of various classes, NCC cadets, scouts, and guides presented a smart and disciplined march past, filling the atmosphere with pride.

Flag hoisting was followed by a stage programme in St Mary’s Auditorium. A soulful prayer song by the school choir invoked divine blessings for our nation and its people. Jacqueline Sushma extended a heartfelt welcome to the gathering. The chief guest was felicitated for his exemplary service to the nation who also delivered an inspiring speech, sharing his experiences in the Air Force and underscoring the importance of patriotism, discipline, patience and selfless service.

The correspondent, Fr Charles Menezes, addressed the audience with a meaningful message that resonated with the spirit of the day.

Students from G5-10 performed a variety entertainment programme based on the theme of Independence Day. They presented vibrant dances, skits and melodious songs on patriotism. Senior Secondary students presented a play on unity in diversity with a mesmerizing patriotic song.

The seamless execution of the event was made possible through the able guidance of principal, Fr Vijay D’Souza, and vice principal, Rita Quadros.

The assistant parish priest, Mother of Sorrows Church Fr Praveen Leo Dsouza and brother Leevan Mathias graced the occasion with their presence.

The celebration concluded with a warm vote of thanks proposed by Swarna Prabha. The programme was elegantly compered by Rajashree Nayak.
