Mangaluru, Aug 14: The primary students of Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru celebrated the 79th Independence Day of India with great enthusiasm and patriotic pride. The event, hosted by the students of grade IV E and III A, was a vibrant blend of cultural expression, respect for national heroes and a call to responsible citizenship.

The celebration began with heartfelt patriotic quotes and warm greetings that set the tone for the day. The atmosphere was made reverent with a soulful prayer service, invoking divine blessings. The chief guest, Lieutenant Colonel Ramanatha Shetty (Retired), was accorded a warm welcome by Pranavi, Nia and Ditvi, followed by a scintillating welcome dance.

A thought-provoking skit titled “The Gift of Freedom”, inter woven with vibrant and emotional dance performances, brought to light the sacrifices of soldiers and their families, leaving the audience deeply moved.

In his address, the chief guest commended the students and mentors for capturing the true spirit of freedom through words, dance and drama. He urged the young audience to practice small acts of responsibility, such as the ADLs (Activities of Daily Living) of life, God-consciousness and environmental care, which, when practiced from a young age, could significantly contribute to the nation’s progress.

The administrator, Sr Carissima, reiterated that responsibility, even in small matters, plays a vital role in building the nation’s future. Vedika and Reyansh expressed gratitude through a heartfelt vote of thanks, while Amshuman, Joanna, Pradyuth, and Jesfrin anchored the programme with confidence and poise.

The celebration beautifully blended India’s cultural heritage, the valour of its heroes, and every citizen’s role in the nation’s growth.

Prior to this day, the catholic students and staff offered Holy Mass to mark the solemnity of the Assumption of Mother Mary and the 79th Independence Day of our Nation, praying for the country’s peace, harmony and prosperity.
