Mangaluru, Aug 8: Lourdes Central School, Bejai, celebrated Aatidonji Dina on August 6, with an objective of helping students to appreciate the rich cultural heritage of Tulunadu. The event aimed to instil in students a sense of identity, gratitude for nature, and respect for ancestral wisdom.
Students from classes 1 to 12 actively participated in the celebration.
The students dressed in traditional attire showcased the customs and folk-art forms of the Aati season setting a vibrant tone for the day. They entertained the Lourdite family with folk songs, while a colourful display of authentic Tulunadu delicacies like pathrode, palakkaida gutti, garige, manjalda irettha gutti, moode, and payasa added flavour and festivity during the lunch break.

The principal Fr Johnson L Sequeira applauded the students and staff for their efforts in preserving and promoting local heritage. In his message, he reflected on the importance of the Aati month, stating, “During Aati, nature is vibrant and at its peak. Our ancestors used this time to rest, rejuvenate, and reconnect with nature and the community. They prepared healthy traditional food items to boost immunity and well-being.”
He reminded the Lourdites to take pride in their cultural roots, be grateful for the richness of the land, and honour the wisdom of their ancestors.
The morning Assembly, highlighting the significance of the festival, was presented meaningfully by the students of class VII A under the guidance of Nandini, Anita Pinto and Vivita D’Souza.
The beautifully crafted backdrop made of coconut leaves and natural materials brought alive the rural charm of Tulunadu.
The celebration successfully revived the spirit of Tulunadu and fostered a deeper appreciation for regional culture, tradition, and community values within the school campus.
