Beltangady: Two booked for objectionable content on social media

Beltangady, Aug 7: Two separate cases have been registered at Belthangady police station against individuals accused of posting inflammatory and obscene content on social media platforms that could disturb public peace and provoke criminal acts.

In the first case, based on a complaint filed by Charan Shetty (32), a resident of Beltangady, the police have registered an FIR (Crime No. 78/2025) under Sections 57 and 296 along with 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. The complainant stated that on the night of August 6, while browsing Facebook on his mobile phone, he came across a video allegedly posted by Girish Mattannavar. The video reportedly contained obscene and provocative content that could incite criminal behaviour and disturb the general public.

In the second case, based on another complaint filed by Charan Shetty, the police registered FIR No. 79/2025 under Section 353(2) of the BNS 2023. The complainant reported that on the morning of August 7, while checking social media, he noticed a video uploaded to YouTube by Mahesh Thimarodi. The content allegedly contained statements capable of creating regional discord and spreading fear among the public.

Police are investigating both cases.
