Mumbai, Aug 7: Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor, who recently marked her OTT debut with Netflix’s Mandala Murders, has candidly spoken about dealing with online trolling, the industry's fixation with physical appearance, and her conscious choice to take up a female-led web series.
In an exclusive interview with NDTV, the War actress opened up about the emotional toll of social media negativity. “I am human. Social media hatred sometimes bothers you,” she admitted, while also emphasizing that she’s committed to growing as an actor beyond her physical appeal.
Reflecting on how looks often overshadow talent in the entertainment industry, Vaani stated, “You have to pick the right filmmakers who see beyond your looks and body. The right audience will appreciate your work, not just your appearance. It’s not just about me—every actress deals with unsolicited comments. You have to learn to filter out the noise.”
Addressing the demands of her profession, the actress acknowledged that appearance does play a role depending on the character. “Yes, it’s a visual medium. Some roles require a specific physical transformation. Like in War, I had to look fitter because the role demanded it. I had to work on my body for that,” she explained.
Vaani also expressed her desire to be seen for her acting skills, sharing that she’s constantly striving to refine her craft. “I’m working hard so that directors and the right audience can see what I bring beyond just being a decently attractive face,” she added.
By choosing a content-driven, female-led series for her digital debut, Vaani hopes to pave the way for more meaningful roles that highlight her capabilities as a performer.
Kapoor’s honest admission brings to light the double-edged nature of fame in the age of social media—where applause and criticism arrive in equal measure.
