Beed, Aug 4: A major scare unfolded at a private hospital in Beed on Sunday afternoon when an elevator carrying Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange and his supporters suddenly collapsed from the first floor. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
CCTV footage captured the dramatic moment as the lift, carrying around half a dozen people including Jarange, suddenly dropped with a loud bang. The group was rescued safely after someone pressed the emergency button.
According to hospital administrator Maharudra Bade, the incident may have been caused by overloading. “We had requested some of the visitors to use the staircase to avoid exceeding the lift’s capacity. While a few complied, the elevator still appeared to be overloaded,” he said.
Jarange, who was visiting the hospital as part of his Beed tour, remained tight-lipped and had not issued any comment on the incident by Sunday evening. He has already warned of launching a fresh agitation on August 29 to press for various demands related to Maratha reservation.
