Ambala, Aug 4: The death of a 31-year-old man undergoing treatment at a private de-addiction centre in Ambala has triggered serious allegations of torture and foul play by his family.

According to police, the deceased had been admitted to the centre for nearly two months. His family was informed of his death late Saturday night and asked to come to the Community Health Centre in Chourmastpur around 9:15 pm.

A relative who arrived at the hospital said he was shocked to see the man's body bearing brutal injury marks. "There were clear signs of severe beating with sticks and cuts on his hands. This was no accident — he was tied up and thrashed to death," he alleged.

He further claimed that when the family visited the de-addiction centre on Sunday, it was completely deserted. “There was no staff present. The operator and all workers had fled,” he said.

Naggal Police Station SHO Karnaveer Singh confirmed that an FIR has been lodged against the centre’s operator and nine others based on the family’s complaint.

The body has been sent for a post-mortem, and further investigation is underway.
