Mangaluru, Aug 1: To significantly boost awareness about organ donation, the Dakshina Kannada District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, and Health and Family Welfare Department, in collaboration with the Youth Red Cross and the Department of Community Health Nursing, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) & Yenepoya Nursing College, successfully organized a district level street play competition on July 30.
The event, focused on the vital theme of organ donation, saw enthusiastic participation from 15 teams across the district. Dr Jacintha D’Souza, district vector borne disease control officer and district nodal officer SOTTO, DK District, inaugurated the programme, emphasizing that "Organ donation is a profound act of generosity that has the power to transform and save countless lives."

Dr Ashwini Shetty, director of Extension and Outreach Activities, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), as guest of honor, highlighted the crucial need to "create organ donation awareness among the community to prevent the existing myths." Dr Leena K C, dean of Yenepoya Nursing College, presided.
Nithyashree B V, nodal officer, Youth Red Cross, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), delivered the welcome address, while Jyothi, programme officer, Yenepoya Nursing College, proposed a vote of thanks. The competition was emceed by Adrija and Akshitha, with a prayer by Fathimathu Zuhra.
Kanachur College of Nursing Sciences, led by Alen Eldho, secured first place, followed by Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing, led by Aaron D’Souza, in second, and Yenepoya Homeopathy Medical College Hospital, led by Hiba Mohammed C P, in third, all effectively conveying the life-saving potential of organ donation to the community.
