New Delhi, Jul 30: In a deeply tragic and unprecedented incident, a 25-year-old Chartered Accountant was found dead at an Airbnb guest house in central Delhi, allegedly having died by suicide through helium gas inhalation — a method not previously recorded in the Capital.
The deceased, identified as Dheeraj Kansal, reportedly left behind detailed suicide notes, both handwritten and on his Facebook profile, stating that no one was to be blamed for his death. “I hate myself more than anyone could ever hate me… I would prefer to burn in hell for eternity,” read one of his chilling final messages.

Kansal had checked into the Airbnb accommodation on Bazaar Lane near Bengali Market on July 20, with a scheduled checkout on July 28. When he failed to vacate the premises, the host sensed something amiss due to a foul odour and alerted the police.
Upon breaking open the door, Barakhamba police found Kansal lying lifeless on the bed, with a helium cylinder beside him and a plastic sheet wrapped around his face and neck, reportedly used to prevent gas leakage.
In his emotional note, Kansal expressed deep self-loathing and hopelessness. “I was useless my whole life. I made many unforgivable mistakes… Life didn’t give me a chance, and I won’t give it one either,” he wrote, adding that his money be donated to orphanages or old-age homes and that his organs be given to those in need.
Police said Kansal had lost his father in 2002 and was residing in Mahipalpur as a paying guest. His mobile phone and online activity are being investigated for further leads. His body has been sent to Lady Hardinge Hospital for postmortem.
This incident has shocked many, both for its rare method and for the emotional depth in the notes left behind. The case serves as a grim reminder of the silent mental health struggles endured by many youth today.
