Dr Karan Rajan shares simple gut hack to beat bloating naturally

London, Jul 27: Bloating isn't just a passing discomfort—it can drain your energy, alter your mood, and chip away at your self-esteem. Highlighting a little-known but effective remedy, NHS surgeon and popular health content creator Dr Karan Rajan took to Instagram on Friday to share a simple trick that could help ease bloating fast.

According to Dr Rajan, the key lies in understanding your gut's natural “self-cleaning” cycle. “Between meals, your digestive system activates something called the Migrating Motor Complex (MMC),” he explained. “It’s like your gut’s own housekeeping crew—clearing out food particles and bacteria through the small intestine.”

However, there's a catch. “Every time you snack between meals, you essentially hit the pause button on this vital process,” he warned. Disrupting the MMC can lead to stagnation in the gut, resulting in bloating, gas, and general discomfort.

The solution, according to Dr Rajan, is as simple as spacing your meals 3 to 4 hours apart. “This gives your gut enough time to complete its cleaning cycle, supporting better digestion and helping maintain a balanced gut microbiome,” he said.

While the advice is helpful for many, Dr Rajan also issued a word of caution: “Bloating can stem from several causes—IBS, food intolerances, hormonal shifts, or SIBO—so meal spacing isn’t a magic cure for everyone. But if you’re looking for a low-effort lifestyle tweak, this might be a great place to start.”

His post has since resonated with thousands online, who praised the simple yet science-backed advice for managing gut health.
