All-party meet breaks deadlock, Lok Sabha set to function normally from Monday

New Delhi, Jul 25: After days of repeated adjournments, the Lok Sabha is likely to resume normal functioning from Monday following a consensus reached during an all-party meeting chaired by Speaker Om Birla.

The breakthrough comes after a week-long standoff between the ruling party and the Opposition over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. Protests over the issue had led to continuous disruptions since the Monsoon Session began on July 21.

Speaker Om Birla, expressing disappointment at the repeated interruptions, reminded members that democracy allows for disagreement, but debate and discussion must be conducted within the framework of parliamentary rules. He urged leaders to set an example by engaging in meaningful dialogue rather than resorting to sloganeering and placard displays.

Earlier today, as the session began, Opposition members once again attempted to raise the issue, prompting another adjournment. This marked the fifth consecutive day of disruption.

However, in the evening, Speaker Om Birla brought leaders from both sides to the table in an effort to restore order. Following detailed discussions, an understanding was reached to allow the House to run smoothly starting next week, with an agreement to address contentious matters through scheduled debates.

The decision comes at a critical time, with several pending bills and discussions lined up for the remainder of the session. All eyes are now on Monday to see if the truce holds and the Lok Sabha returns to its regular business.
