Mangaluru: YEN-REFINED organizes core area expert meet on emerging trends in finance

Mangaluru, Jul 21: Yenepoya Research Centre for Finance and Entrepreneurship Development (YEN-REFINED), Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), organized a core area expert meet on the theme ‘Emerging Areas of Research in Finance: Trends, Gaps, and Future Directions’ on July 19 at the YEN-REFINED Lecture Hall, Kulur campus.

Dr Jeevan Raj, principal (I/C) of YIASCM, emphasized the strategic importance of the core area expert initiative, highlighting its role in strengthening focused research and offering transformative opportunities for dedicated, hardcore researchers.

The event brought together scholars, research fellows, and postgraduate students from across the country, with a total of 31 participants attending in both offline and online modes. The session focused on exposing researchers to cutting-edge trends in finance and enhancing their readiness for high-impact academic research and publications.

The inaugural session was anchored by Babitha Shali Lasrado, junior research fellow at YEN-REFINED, who served as the master of ceremonies. The session began with a prayer and scripture reading by Ansar Ali, 1st year MBA student, YIASCM. Dr S M Riha Parvin, assistant professor and co-convenor, delivered a warm welcome address, setting a scholarly tone for the day.

Prof Niyaz Panakaje, Coordinator of YEN-REFINED, delivered the session briefing, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary thinking and innovative research in the evolving financial landscape. He emphasized how finance scholars must explore emerging themes to contribute meaningfully to academia and practice.

The keynote address and expert session were led by Prof T Mallikarjunappa, professor at Justice K S Hegde Institute of Management, NITTE (Deemed to be University). His presentation offered deep insights into frontier research areas including Decentralized Finance (DeFi), Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Finance, Sustainable and ESG Investing, Behavioural and Neurofinance, Cybersecurity in financial systems, Quantum Computing in finance, and the ethical challenges in algorithmic trading. He also presented a real-time case analysis of the Jane Street Hedge Fund trading strategy, engaging participants in market microstructure and manipulation narratives. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Shafeena Abdul Jabbar, junior research fellow.

Participant feedback reflected high levels of engagement, with several attendees appreciating the depth and relevance of the discussions. Prof Niyaz Panakaje and Prof T Mallikarjunappa addressed the gathering once again, encouraging researchers to pursue publication-focused, globally aligned research agendas.

Certificates were distributed, and the backend was supported by Babitha, Niha, Shafeena, Mural, Bhavya, Vedavathi, and Saurav, junior research fellows. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr S M Riha Parvin, and the singing of the National Anthem.
