Udupi, Jul 19: A routine traffic check turned tense when a driver allegedly misbehaved with a traffic police officer near the Karavali Bypass in Udupi.
According to the police, Hussainsab Kashimsab Chapparkar, sub-inspector-2 at Udupi Traffic police station, was on duty conducting vehicle inspections with his team. At approximately 11:30 am on Friday, they noticed an Omni car (KA-19-MG-3705) heading from Ambalpady towards Karavali Junction being driven without the driver wearing a seatbelt.
Upon stopping the vehicle and requesting the driver to produce his documents, the driver reportedly responded aggressively and refused to hand over any documents. Despite being informed that the car was stopped for a seatbelt violation, he attempted to continue driving.
When the officer moved in front of the car, the driver stopped. Upon inspection of the documents, the driver was identified as Kurien. When issued a police notice and asked to sign the acknowledgment, Kurien refused and allegedly tried to snatch the licence from the officer’s hand, thereby obstructing official duties.
The Udupi town police have registered a case.
