New Delhi Jul 18: In a nostalgic revival of Indian television's most iconic daily soap, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is all set to return with a limited episode format. The reboot, led once again by popular TV actress and BJP leader Smriti Irani, will premiere on July 29 at 10:30 pm on Star Plus.

Produced by Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor under the banner of Balaji Telefilms, the show is not aiming for another marathon run. Instead, the creators have opted for a focused, impactful narrative.

Speaking to the media, Ekta Kapoor explained the thought behind the reboot's short format. "We wanted to do a short bout of episodes so that we can bring back the memories and most importantly, give back to the medium that gave us so much — television," she stated.

Reflecting on the cultural impact of the original series, Ekta emphasized the iconic role of Tulsi, played by Smriti Irani. “Tulsi penetrated deep into Indian households. Her presence changed many perceptions. Even today, people come up to me and say how she inspired women to stand up for themselves.”

Recounting one such incident, she shared, “A young man once told me his father hated me because his mother answered him back for the first time — inspired by Tulsi. That moment gave her strength, and that’s the power of storytelling we want to bring back.”

The reboot isn’t chasing TRPs, says Kapoor. Instead, it is about impact. “Smriti and the channel agreed — let’s create an impactful property. Let’s entertain without being preachy. Let’s address important issues and change mindsets, even if it’s through just a few episodes.”

With high expectations and nostalgia running high, the limited-episode version of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi aims to recapture the emotional strength of the original while adapting to today’s storytelling needs.
