Tivim panchayat accuses secretary of misconduct, political bias

Tivim, Jul 12: The Tivim Panchayat has levelled serious allegations against its secretary, Dhiraj Govekar, accusing him of abusive behaviour, harassment of staff, and deliberately obstructing the functioning of the panchayat due to political bias.

Addressing the media on Friday, Acting Sarpanch Akshada Kalangutkar alleged that Govekar had repeatedly misbehaved with elected members, particularly those not aligned with local MLA and Fisheries Minister Nilkant Halarnkar.

She claimed that Govekar was using his post to stall resolutions and development works, adding that the latest incident occurred on Thursday when he allegedly barged into her cabin and verbally abused former sarpanch Venkatesh Shirodkar and member Nilesh Narvekar.

“He ordered them out in a disrespectful manner, claiming they had no right to be there. This kind of behaviour from a government official is unacceptable,” she said.

Kalangutkar further alleged that Govekar regularly intimidates staff and instructs them not to cooperate with the ruling group, abusing them when they refuse to comply with his directives.

Former sarpanch Shirodkar described the secretary’s actions as “dadagiri”, saying he even threatened to call the police. Panchayat member Shivdas Kambli slammed the incident as a “murder of democracy”.

The ruling panchayat group believes Govekar is acting under political influence and has deliberately blocked development files for the past three years due to their non-alignment with the MLA.

A majority of members have now called for immediate government intervention and the removal of the secretary to restore normal functioning.
