Goa govt official killed in tragic road mishap at Guirim

Mapusa, Jul 9: In a tragic accident, a 51-year-old government official lost his life after a mini-bus rammed into his two-wheeler at Guirim near Mapusa on Monday morning.

The deceased, Narayan Abhyankar, was an under secretary in the law department of the State government and a resident of Colvale.

According to police, the incident occurred along National Highway (NH-66) when Abhyankar was riding his scooter towards Porvorim. After crossing the Guirim overbridge, a mini-bus coming from Mapusa and merging onto the highway from the service road allegedly hit his scooter from behind.

The impact threw Abhyankar off the vehicle, and he was reportedly run over by the rear wheels of the bus. He sustained severe injuries and died on the spot.

Mapusa police have registered a case and taken the bus driver into custody. Further investigation is underway.
