CBI charges two Indians in UAE, Bahrain murder cases after foreign requests

New Delhi, Jun 27: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed charge sheets against two Indian nationals in connection with two separate murder cases that took place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Kingdom of Bahrain, officials said on Friday.

Based on formal requests from the foreign governments, the CBI initiated local prosecutions after investigating the crimes under Indian law. The agency worked in close coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs to collect evidence from UAE and Bahrain that would be admissible in Indian courts.

The accused in the two cases are Inder Jit Singh and Subhash Chander Mahla.

In the first case, involving the murder of Indian national Rama Lingam Natesan in Abu Dhabi, the CBI registered a case against Inder Jit Singh under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.

Investigations revealed that Natesan, who sold international SIM cards in Abu Dhabi, had ongoing financial dealings with Singh. Over time, Singh’s unpaid dues mounted to AED 300, leading to a dispute. On August 28, 2008, Singh attacked Natesan with a sharp knife, fatally injuring him.

In the second case, Subhash Chander Mahla was charged under Sections 302 and 404 of the IPC for murdering his employer in Bahrain. The CBI acted on an extradition request from Bahrain routed through the Ministry of External Affairs. Investigations confirmed that Mahla, who worked as a driver in Bahrain, was upset over alleged mistreatment by his employer. On January 31, 2011, finding the victim alone, Mahla fatally assaulted him with a blunt weapon.

The CBI has now launched prosecutions against both individuals in India as part of its efforts to ensure justice for crimes committed by Indian nationals abroad.
