Ahmedabad, Jun 15: In the aftermath of the devastating Air India plane crash, Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Saturday issued a solemn update, confirming the identification of 19 victims through DNA matching.

Taking to social media platform X at 9:00 pm, Minister Sanghavi stated, “DNA Matching Progress: 19 DNA samples have been matched so far, confirming the identities of victims.” He further assured that efforts were ongoing to identify the remaining victims.

According to Sanghavi, forensic teams from the State Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) are working tirelessly through the night to complete the DNA identification process. He praised their relentless efforts during this challenging operation.

Earlier in the day, Dr Rajnish Patel, Professor of Surgery at the government-run B J Medical College, informed the media that DNA tests conducted at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital had confirmed the identities of 11 victims by matching their samples with those of family members.

Dr Patel urged the families of the deceased not to visit the hospital in haste. “The civil hospital will personally contact the families once a DNA match is confirmed. There is no need for families to rush,” he said.

The tragic crash has left families in grief and the nation in mourning. Authorities continue to work around the clock to ensure all victims are identified and given a respectful farewell.
