Mangaluru, Jun 14: Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru, ushered in the new academic year with enriching orientation programmes for grades VI–VIII on June 13 and for grades IX and X on June 14, held in the school auditorium. The events welcomed both students and parents, offering a glimpse into the dynamic academic and co-curricular journey that lies ahead.
The programme for grades VI to VIII began with a warm introduction by the MC, Tr Prathiksha, setting the tone for a meaningful morning. A soulful prayer led by the school choir was followed by a vibrant creative welcome by the students, showcasing the school’s harmonious blend of academics and extracurricular pursuits.

































Principal Sr Melissa extended a heartfelt welcome to the chief guest, students, and parents. Vice principal Sr Teena presented a flower sapling to the esteemed key note speaker, Dr Roshan Fernandes, professor and head of the department of cyber security at NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte (Deemed to be University), symbolising growth and appreciation. In her address, Sr Melissa reaffirmed the school’s mission to provide a nurturing, holistic, and forward-looking educational environment, one that fosters not only academic excellence but also the overall development of each child.
The event was enriched by the insightful session delivered by Dr Roshan Fernandes on cyber safety and security. Emphasizing the increasing importance of digital literacy and online safety, his talk addressed critical topics such as cyber frauds, screen time, and online gaming. His valuable insights left the audience better informed and empowered to navigate the digital world more responsibly.
This was followed by general guidelines shared by Tr Leena and subject-wise presentations by faculty members. Tr Jyotsna provided a clear overview of the CBSE assessment system, helping parents understand the evaluation structure and academic expectations. An interactive session allowed parents to voice queries and share feedback, reflecting the school’s commitment to transparency and collaboration. In her concluding message, the principal urged parents to monitor screen time and mobile usage at home, stressing their role in guiding children toward responsible digital behavior.
The event concluded with a warm vote of thanks by Tr Preema, who appreciated the resource person Dr Roshan Fernandes for his enlightening talk, and expressed gratitude to parents, students and all who contributed to the success of the session.
The orientation programme for grades IX and X held on June 14 began with the thought by the MC Sr Juliana Furtado, “Behind every young child who believes in themselves is a parent who believed first.” This meaningful quote set the tone for an event focused on the shared responsibility between the school and parents in nurturing each student’s academic and personal growth.
A heartfelt prayer invoked divine blessings, followed by a graceful welcome dance by the students, symbolising joy and unity. The highlight of the opening segment was the address by principal Sr Melissa, who warmly welcomed the gathering and specially greeted the keynote speaker, madam Geetha Kulkarni, ACP, CCRB, Mangalore City. Tr Sylvia Fernandes, the coordinator for the secondary section offered floral tribute to madam Geetha Kulkarni.
The most anticipated part of the day was the session by madam Geetha Kulkarni, who spoke on the critical issue of cybercrime and the influence of social media. Her insightful and eye-opening presentation equipped parents with essential knowledge of the digital landscape and empowered them to support and safeguard their children amid rising online risks. Her presence left a lasting impression on all present.
The academic session followed with subject teachers explaining the CBSE academic framework, board evaluation pattern, and practical ways parents can assist and motivate their children at home. The clarity and relevance of this session were well-received by the audience.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Tr Priyanka, who expressed heartfelt appreciation to the management, guest speaker, parents, staff and students for their participation and cooperation in making the event a meaningful success.
A brief interactive session followed, allowing parents to voice their concerns and ask questions related to the CBSE curriculum and evaluation system.
