London, Jun 14: Industrialist Sunjay Kapur, former husband of Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor, passed away in London on June 12 following a heart attack during a polo match. He was 53.

According to reports, his funeral could be delayed due to legal procedures, as Sunjay was a US citizen who died in the UK. A source close to the family informed NDTV, "The complication arises from the fact that Sunjay was a US citizen who passed away in the UK, leading to an extended legal process before his body can be flown to India for the final rites."

Ashok Sachdev, Sunjay’s father-in-law and father of his wife Priya Sachdev, said the final rites will be held in Delhi. “The postmortem is currently underway. Once the paperwork is complete, the body will be brought to India,” he told NDTV.

Sunjay was known not just for his business acumen but also for his social ties, including a close friendship with Prince William. While initial reports attributed his death to a heart attack during the match, some accounts suggested it may have been triggered by a freak bee sting. However, the exact cause remains unconfirmed pending official reports.

Sunjay was married three times. His first marriage was to fashion designer Nandita Mahtani in 1996. He then married Karisma Kapoor in 2003, and the couple had two children — Samaira (19) and Kiaan (13). The marriage ended in divorce in 2016. In 2017, he married Priya Sachdev, with whom he has a son, Azarias.
