Nairobi, Jun 11: In a heart-wrenching incident, five Keralites lost their lives and several others sustained injuries after a tourist bus carrying Indian nationals met with a tragic accident in Kenya on Sunday, June 9.
The mishap took place around 4:30 PM local time (7:00 PM IST) near Nyahururu, a town located approximately 150 km from Nairobi. The ill-fated bus was ferrying a group of 28 Indian tourists who had arrived in Kenya from Qatar for a sightseeing trip.
While the Indian High Commission in Nairobi is yet to officially release the identities of the deceased, sources have confirmed that all five victims hailed from Kerala. Multiple passengers were injured in the crash, prompting an immediate emergency response.

Stepping up to the occasion, the Loka Kerala Sabha, through its diaspora arm Norka Roots, has initiated coordinated relief efforts. Sabha representatives confirmed that the injured — many of them Malayalis — are currently receiving treatment at local medical facilities in Nyahururu. Arrangements are underway to shift the victims to advanced care units at Nakuru and the Aga Khan Hospitals in Nairobi by road and air ambulances by nightfall.
Efforts are also being made to transport the mortal remains of the deceased to Nairobi, ahead of repatriation procedures.
Former World Kerala Sabha members GP Rajmohan and Sajith Shankar, along with the Kerala Association of Kenya and local Malayali community volunteers, swiftly reached the accident site and extended all necessary support to the victims.
The Indian diaspora, in collaboration with Kenyan authorities, continues to monitor the situation closely while offering every possible assistance to the grieving families and the injured.
