New Delhi, Jun 10: In a heart-wrenching incident, a man and his two children lost their lives after jumping from the upper floors of a high-rise in Delhi’s Dwarka to escape a raging fire that engulfed their home on Tuesday morning. The tragic scene, captured on camera, has sent shockwaves across the capital.

The fire broke out on the eighth and ninth floors of Shapath Society, near MRV School in Dwarka Sector-13, at around 9:58 am. Thirty-five-year-old Yash Yadav, a businessman involved in the flex board industry, and his two children, aged 10 and 12, jumped from their balcony in a desperate attempt to escape the flames.

Visuals showed the family standing helplessly on the balcony edge as the fire raged behind them. One by one, they leapt off, with one of them tragically hitting a ledge on the way down. Yash succumbed to his injuries at IGI Hospital, while both children were declared dead at Aakash Hospital.

His wife and elder son managed to survive the ordeal and are currently undergoing treatment at IGI Hospital.

Eight fire tenders and a sky lift were rushed to the scene. Firefighters and residents smashed windows and tried to rescue those trapped. People from the lower floors managed to evacuate quickly, but those on the upper floors faced a harrowing time.

“All residents have been safely evacuated now. Electricity and gas supply have been cut off as a precaution,” said an official from the fire department.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
