Delhi, Jun 7: A man who issued a death threat to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was arrested by the North-West District Special Staff of Delhi Police after an intensive investigation. The accused was traced and apprehended from a hideout in Ghaziabad following a threatening call made late Thursday night.
Police revealed that the call was initially made to the Ghaziabad Police Control Room while the man was reportedly under the influence of alcohol. After alerting Delhi Police, the suspect’s location was tracked, but he switched off his phone before officers arrived. A law graduate facing personal distress due to a recent separation from his wife, the accused had earlier demanded to speak to her before making the threat.

During interrogation, police found fake identification cards resembling police credentials on the man, suggesting possible attempts at impersonation. Officers noted that he tried to mislead investigators repeatedly.
A senior Delhi Police official said, “Threat assessments for VIPs or VVIPs are conducted under the Ministry of Home Affairs’ direction.” Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who has Z-category security, will likely have her protection reviewed following this incident.
Further investigations are underway to check the accused’s criminal background and the source of the forged police IDs.
