Sullia, Jun 6: A 29-year-old woman who was admitted to hospital for childbirth died due to excessive bleeding post-delivery, leading to a case being registered at the Sullia police station.

The deceased has been identified as Madhura (29), daughter of Babu and Chinnamma from Sampaje village and wife of Shekhar Malekudiya of Nujodi Mapala house, Naravi village, Beltangady.

Madhura was married six years ago and had a three-and-a-half-year-old son. She was admitted to Sullia government hospital on June 2 for her second delivery. On June 3 at 6:45 pm, she gave birth to a baby girl. However, around 9 pm, she began experiencing severe bleeding.

As per medical advice, she was shifted to Lady Goschen Hospital in Mangaluru at 11:30 pm. Despite efforts, she breathed her last at 12:37 am.

Allegations of medical negligence surfaced when her body was handed over to the family without conducting a post-mortem. Preparations were underway for the final rites at home when members of the community, including Sridhar Eedu, president of the Karnataka Malekudiya Association, brought the issue to the attention of district health and police officials.

Following their intervention, a post-mortem was conducted. The family also filed a complaint at the Sullia police station, demanding appropriate action against those responsible and compensation from the government for the child’s future.

A thorough enquiry must be conducted by competent Doctors Then only we will know the real cause. Before blaming Doctors enquiry is needed as sometimes all maternal deaths are not preventable
