Mangaluru, Jun 6: The students of St Agnes School CBSE came together to commemorate World Environment Day on June 5 with a meaningful programme that reflected on our vital role in protecting and preserving the environment. This year’s observance served as a powerful reminder of the urgent need to restore our ecosystems and work collectively toward a sustainable future. Truly, we are the generation that can heal the Earth.

The programme began with a prayer, seeking the blessings of the almighty for the strength and wisdom to safeguard nature. The devotional opening set a thoughtful tone, highlighting the deep spiritual connection we share with the natural world and our responsibility to care for it.

A warm and vibrant welcome was extended to the chief guest, Shobha D’Souza, School counsellor and passionate environmentalist, known for her dedicated efforts toward a greener planet. She was welcomed with a floral gesture, and the gathering was graciously addressed by Adithi P K, who delivered a heartfelt welcome speech.

The students brought the environmental message to life through a skit on the devastating consequences of pollution, showcasing the intricate bond between humanity and nature. This year’s theme, ‘Beat plastic pollution’, was powerfully conveyed through a thematic dance performance, encouraging the audience to adopt eco-friendly alternatives in daily life.

Clarissa Rodrigues, a student of grade X, presented the significance of the day and emphasized the purpose behind this important observance. The celebration also featured a melodious song dedicated to nature, followed by a symbolic gesture of handing over a sapling to the vice principal Sr Meena Fernandes underscoring the commitment to nurturing the Earth.

The chief guest, Shobha D’Souza, captivated the audience with her inspiring message on the importance of preserving and conserving the environment. She acknowledged the school for organizing such a meaningful event and congratulated the students for their sincere and impactful presentation.

Adding to the awareness efforts, the Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), ministry of education conducted a webinar under the aegis of eco clubs for mission life across affiliated schools, highlighting the theme ‘Beat plastic pollution’ and urging collective action toward environmental conservation.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Ayrah Khateeja Hussain, who expressed gratitude to all those present, including the faculty, students, and especially the guiding mentors Chethana and Daphne for their dedication and support.

The programme came to a fitting close with the rendition of the school anthem, echoing a shared commitment to protect our common home — the earth.
